Ryo Takeuchi
Documentary Filmmaker & Founder
  • Born in Chiba, Japan in 1978, Takeuchi Ryo began his career as a documentary director in 2005. His early worksinclude Dawn of the Earth (TV Tokyo), Future Century Japan (TV Tokyo), and The Yangtze River: A GrandJourney (NHK), which established his reputation for immersive storytelling.
  • In 2013, he moved to Nanjing, China, with his wife and co-founder Zhao Ping, launching WANOYUME CultureMedia Co., Ltd. the following year. His breakthrough series“The Reason Why I Live Here”(2015–present) hasfeatured over 300 protagonists across cultures, surpassing 600 million views globally.
  • During the COVID-19 pandemic, his documentaries“Nanjing Anti-Epidemic Diary” (2020) and “Long Time NoSee, Wuhan” (2020) offered candid portrayals of resilience, drawing international acclaim. Recognized for bridgingSino-Japanese understanding, he was named one of Newsweek Japan’s"100 Most Respected Japanese in theWorld" (2021) and authored “Building Bridges: A Japanese Man’s Journey to Calling China His SecondHome” (2022).
  • In 2023, Tokyo hosted the"Takeuchi Ryo Documentary Film Week,"where his theatrical release“Reunion: TheYangtze River”achieved a 70% occupancy rate.
